Rabbi’s August 2019 Column

Shalom All,

It’s hard to believe that summer has nearly come and gone. It’s already August and even though the High Holy Days don’t start until the end of September this year, all the normal preparations for the coming year are well under way. By the end of this month, the Religious School teachers will have met and set up for the new school year, Shir Yehudah will have begun rehearsals for our first Musical Shabbat of season 13, and our new adult education course, “Israel’s Milestones and Their Meanings” will have started. This class will meet once a month, the first session is Thursday, August 22nd.

By the way: we’re always looking for new musicians and singers. If your interested we’d love for you to join us at any of the rehearsals. Shir Yehudah rehearsals, for Musical Shabbat start on Sunday, August 25th at Noon, while choir rehearsals for the High Holy Days will start on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd.

There are also a number of unique service opportunities this month. We’ll be holding services outside, in the the Silber Outdoor Sanctuary on August 2nd (weather permitting), and our normal Traditional Services on Saturday, August 10th. But I’d like to call particular attention to our Board of Directors Installation service on Friday night, August 16th. During this service we will install our new Board of Directors, including our new president, Robert Becker. I hope you can all be there.

It’s been a relatively quiet summer for Temple Judah, but as you can see things are about to pick up. Enjoy yourselves, stay cool, and come and join us when you can.

B’shalom,
Rabbi Todd
