Temple Judah Trust
A Trust consisting of a family of funds intended to support the mission of Temple Judah and the greater Cedar Rapids Jewish Community. The Trust is governed by a separate Trust Supervisory Board. Major past contributors to this fund include Nate Berg, Henry and Sara Katz, Herman and Barbara Ohsman, and Joe Sinaiko.
Operating Endowment Fund
Supports the general operation of the Temple. Major contributors are Samuel and Frances Cohn.
Temple Judah Foundation
The Foundation assists Temple Judah and the Jewish community of Cedar Rapids in their charitable, religious, educational and social purposes. Distribution of the fund is at the sole discretion of the Foundation Trustees. The Sue and Bert Katz fund is a part of this Foundation as well as a donation from Natalie and Joe Cohn.
Temple Judah History Fund
The mission of this fund is to document, through various media, the rich history associated with our Jewish community. This will include Temple photos, official business minutes of meetings, along with stories about our Temple, and individual family stories, photos and video.
Tree of Life
Located in the Community Hall, a leaf may be purchased and engraved to commemorate any positive, joyous occasion or expressions. The Tree of Life is not for memorial purposes. Funds are used for general Temple operation.
For structural changes and additions to our facility.
For functional and aesthetic improvement of the Temple building.
Located in the lower foyer and lower sanctuary. Monies obtained through the purchase of these plaques are placed in the Enhancement Fund.
Temple Judah Music Fund
To provide music through various venues including funding a Cantor or Cantorial Soloist, funding musical groups for special services, and assistance with music for our choir. To help adult and youth understand and appreciate Judaism through music.
Religious School Endowment Fund
To support the Religious School. Bessie Bucksbaum was a major contributor to this fund.
To help our young people attend youth conclaves, Jewish summer camps, trips to Israel and other Jewish educational activities. There are several named Youth Scholarship Funds that originated with a donation of $1000 or more.
Holocaust Memorial Fund Created and Endowed by Dr. David and Joan Thaler
To promote and support the education and awareness of the Holocaust in our community, by which more than six million Jews and others perished, so that future generations shall be prepared to resist any recurrence of such horrors. This fund also brings Yom HaShoah speakers to Cedar Rapids each year.
Jewish Family Life Fund
To enhance the Jewish family life of our members within the confines of Temple Judah through food and Judaica. This was formerly the Sisterhood Fund.
Jewish Welfare Fund
To support the charitable needs of the Eastern Iowa Jewish community along with donations to Jewish charities, nationally and internationally.
For trees, bushes, gardens, etc. to enhance the grounds. Variety and placement will be based on a master plan developed specifically for our property.
Gasway Memorial Library Fund
For the purchase of books, periodicals, software and other library upgrades.
Provides speakers and special educational programs.
Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund
For exclusive use of the Rabbi for projects, equipment, programs, personal emergencies, etc., which the Rabbi feels will benefit the Temple or its members.
