Secrets of the Shanghai Ghetto

By the outbreak of WW2, Shanghai sheltered more Jewish refugees than any other place in the world and almost all survived. Learn about the history of Jewish Shanghai from 1861 through the Communist takeover in 1949, a story that many Americans do not know but one that is taught in China and Japan. Q&A follows the presentation.

Presenter, Helene Herman, recently, retired as President of the 400+ member lifelong learning SLED Club in Tamarac, FL that evolved from Brandeis Women. She is a lecturer for Nova’s Lifelong Learning Institute, FIU’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and FAU Osher Lifelong Learning on a variety of historical and cultural topics. Helene is  the Executive Vice President  for the Sisterhood at Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek in Tamarac FL.
