President’s June 2019 Column

Mazel Tov to all our summer high school and college graduates and to our Bar/Bat Mitzvahs this year! You’ve studied and worked hard to get this far. Good luck in your future endeavors and always keep learning. We’re proud of you!

Looking back at the past year, it’s easy to see that Temple Judah is an active and thriving community. We’ve held education opportunities, for both kids and adults alike, to grow in their religious studies. We have celebrated holidays, from Rosh Hashanah’s first blast of the shofar to decorating the sukkah, frying latkes for Hanukkah dinner, munching matzah at the Passover seder, and observing a day of rest each week on Shabbat. We’ve celebrated life milestones, including birthdays, anniversaries, and kids becoming Bar/Bat Mitzvahs.

Despite all the highlights of last year, I must mention the biggest tragedy of last year, which occurred in October 2018 at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA. In memory of the victims, we have installed a Yahrzeit plaque for the memorial board in the lower sanctuary.

To everyone who has contributed volunteer time, financial support, or both over the last year – Thank You! Your generous support makes Temple Judah the thriving community it is. Your financial contributions keep the lights on, maintain a safe and comfortable building, support our full-time rabbi to serve our community, and many other things. Your volunteer contributions put the heart into our community. We wouldn’t be able to run the synagogue without all of you.

And especially a big thank you to all our teachers, secretary, rabbi, volunteers who have pitched in for various events, as well as all who have served on the committees and the Board of Directors this past year!

The Congregational Annual Meeting this Sunday, June 2nd, is the perfect opportunity to reflect on everything from this past year and to make plans for the next year! In addition to viewing Stephen Eckert’s annual Year in Review video, we’ll be finalizing plans for next year’s budget and reviewing new board members and officers. The BBQ is at 5:30 pm and the meeting is at 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there!

As my term is ending, I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve this community as the President of the Board of Directors!
