President’s May 2018 Column

Spring has finally arrived! I hope you’ve been able to enjoy a bit of the sunshine. Many of us at Temple Judah enjoyed the warm weather and celebrated Earth Day by cleaning up our little patch of earth at our Temple Judah Spring Grounds Day. Some of our accomplishments were that we weeded the Silber Outdoor Sanctuary in preparation for outdoor Shabbat services, raked the flower beds and under the arborvitaes, picked up sticks and dead branches, re-painted the yellow stripes on the cement stairs for the lower entrance, and weeded the side flower bed at the upper entrance. Watch Steve Eckert’s video compilation of all the photos taken from that morning, using the link in this month’s bulletin!

A special thank you to everyone who helped with Spring Grounds Day, especially the Religious School students, teachers, and parents! It was a fun and fantastic Temple Judah community event, with both kids and adults taking part in beautifying the grounds.

Save the date! Another big Temple Judah community event you won’t want to miss is the Congregational Annual Meeting and President’s BBQ later this month, scheduled for May 27th. The BBQ will begin at 5:30 pm and the Meeting will be at 6:30 pm. Though typically held in June, we’re holding it a couple weeks earlier due to the trip to Israel and other scheduling conflicts. At this annual meeting, you can look forward to Steve Eckert’s annual Year in Review video, and reminisce on everything we’ve accomplished and experienced together this past year. We will also be voting on an update to our bylaws and voting in nominees to fill positions on the Board of Directors.

Though Religious School wraps up in a week, concluding with a picnic at Bever Park, we still have plenty going on at Temple Judah this month. For example, we have Family Promise volunteer opportunities in early May, the Shalom Hartman Adult Education class continues through this month, Hadassah book club, Shavuot services, and our regular Friday night and monthly Saturday Shabbat Morning Services.

Congratulations to all students graduating this month!
