President’s Column December 2018

Chag Sameach!

Hanukkah begins this Sunday night, and the following Sunday, December 9th at 6 pm, we will be holding our annual Hanukkah dinner! Brian Cohen and his crew will again be frying up delicious latkes. We hope you can join us and look forward to having a great dinner!  See the bulletin for more information and RSVP.

Per the plan I communicated last month, we have conducted a building vulnerability assessment with the Cedar Rapids Police Department, in which there were only a couple minor suggestions.  In fact, from my understanding, it was reported that holding security awareness training would make a bigger impact to improving our safety than changes to the building. On that note, we are hosting two sessions of security awareness training this month, presented by Lt. Fields of the CRPD. Both sessions cover the same information. This training is an opportunity to learn how to stay safe in an emergency, whether you’re at Temple Judah, the grocery store, the office, or any other place you happen to be. As a board, we feel our synagogue is a safe place, and it’s even more secure when we each have the power of knowledge to protect us further. Please see the bulletin for more information on the session dates and times.

We are also holding our regular Saturday Shabbat Morning Services next weekend on Saturday, December 8th at 10 am.

Happy Holidays!

Shalom,

Jill
President
