President’s Column July 2018

We had a great Annual Congregational Meeting this year. We hit a snafu when the air conditioning unit for the upper sanctuary malfunctioned just a day or two before, forcing us to move to the cozier lower sanctuary for the meeting. Thanks to Mike Heeren and Tony Smith for setting up and then doing a last minute relocation of tables and chairs. At the BBQ, we had delicious burgers and hot dogs grilled by Mike Heeren, and plenty of delicious side dishes. As you know, due to scheduling conflicts, the only available date to hold the meeting was on Memorial Day Weekend, which was much earlier than usual. We didn’t have quite the turnout we usually do, so we made some phone calls. A special thank you to everyone who came to the meeting, especially those who responded to our calls to make sure we had a quorum!

As a result of the meeting, we approved the bylaws, with a couple additional minor revisions. We elected the board for the 2018-2019 fiscal year, including one new member, Robert Becker, to serve as 1st Vice President, and re-elected three members who had completed serving their first terms and were ready to serve their final consecutive term. We approved the budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year, with a couple updates. The highlight of the BBQ and Meeting was the finale – Steve Eckert’s Year in Review video once again proved to be reflective, humorous, and very well done.

Although the Board of Directors decided not to hold a regular board meeting for the month of June, we’ll be reconvening for the July board meeting. We’ll be discussing some of the feedback heard at the Annual Meeting, including the budget update for the Religious School line item, among many other things.

It’s officially summer, so come start Shabbat by enjoying the peace of the outdoors in the Silber Outdoor Sanctuary this Friday at our Outdoor Services at 6:30 pm. Weather looks good on Friday evening so far!
