President’s April 2018 Column

Happy Spring! We’ve been getting ready for Passover to start in just a few days.  Religious school held a model seder last weekend, and several people helped to clean the Temple Judah kitchen. We are ready to prepare and enjoy a delicious seder meal! We hope you will join us for our Temple Judah Community Passover Seder on Saturday, March 31st. Thanks to all who are helping with the seder preparations.

As you enter the synagogue this Passover, notice the large wooden art piece on the wall across from the elevator and above the lower sanctuary doorway. The rust-colored, churning waves of the piece depict the Parting of the Red Sea, the miracle God performed through Moses to allow the Israelites to escape from the Egyptians by crossing the sea on dry land. The beautiful art is very appropriate for the Passover holiday we are about to celebrate. According to Sol Maikon, this piece had been donated by A.L. Smulekoff and his wife, Cecelia. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the art and the freedom granted to our ancestors through the miracle.

Because Passover begins this Friday, March 30th at sundown, we will not be having our regular Friday night services that evening. Instead, we will be holding morning services the following day on Saturday, March 31st, and then our congregation’s seder will be held that evening. Next week services will continue as normal with morning services held on Saturday, April 14th. We are also have Family Services on April 20th – check the Bulletin, Shaliach, or Temple Judah calendar for details on all our events going on!

Chag Pesach Sameach!
